Dear Subscriber,
we have now entered Year of the Water Tiger and we hope you enjoyed a much needed break and a relaxing Lunar New Year with family and loved ones.
The Tiger Zodiac is symbolized by many positive traits. Brave, competitive, unpredictable, confident and great levels of willpower characterizes the Tiger Zodiac and we hope these traits will encourage our members while we navigate through the new normal during 2022.
It is both our hope and wish that this year is the year of the "great opening", making it possible for people to freely travel across the Taiwan border to work, study and visit family and relatives. According to CECC at least incoming business travel is likely to become a reality during early March and we will keep pushing for this to happen.
We look forward sharing Year of the Tiger with you all, and the International Olympic Committee's new motto is befitting for what we look to achieve during 2022: “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”
All the best //Fredrik and Ingrid |

Sweden makes it to the top of Taiwan. 3858 meters above sea level! |
|
|
|
Late last autumn we picked up on an article in Taipei Times an about employees from the Central Weather Bureau, working in month long shifts up at Yushan's north peak weather station.
Harsh alpine climate, along with scarce water and a limited electricity supply, has imbued a spirit of “taking hardship in one’s stride” in the employees, and an ethos of persevering in the job providing services to us at sea level. Employees are flown with helicopter from Chiayi and spend months at a time up there working hard to provide Taiwan with top notch weather forecasts, earthquake monitoring and early warnings. Providing a brief moment of bliss during their grueling sojourns at the isolated outpost, away from families and loved ones months at a time they built a small cafe from leftover wooden crates and left overs, a cafe we decided to stock up for the winter.
Together with Electrolux Taiwan, Ericsson Taiwan, Rockland and Vana Candles we put together a Christmas gift box, which was sent up the mountain via helicopter. Coffee makers, thermo mugs, cookies, chocolate, Fjällräven caps, cigars and whiskey hopefully means the guys up there were able to get into Christmas spirit!
(SCCT had plans to make this go viral but not to create a constant helicopter logistics challenge and compliance issue for the receiver we've agreed with the CWB Director General to keep this low key and for internal marketing among our sponsoring members.) |

Dear All, Now that we have put a tumultuous 2021 behind us, Business Sweden is looking forward to a 2022 where we can all meet together again under normal circumstances, although we are facing an early challenge with the emergence of omicron. In 2022, Business Sweden will conduct a number of industry promotion events and some our key topics will be sustainable and efficient manufacturing, next-generation water management, retail & family goods as well and future healthcare and medical devices. We are also proud to continue to support the pursuit of Taiwan’s net carbon zero target through our Green Transition Alliance together with our eight Swedish members. We continue to see a great interest in the Taiwanese market from Swedish companies, and we look forward to welcoming more new entrants to the market. We would also like to thank the Chamber for great collaboration in 2021 and look forward to continued engagements in 2022. Furthermore, we wish you all a happy new year of the Tiger! Best Regards Petter Sund |

Your Chamber needs your help. We really do. |
| If any member is looking to arrange a sales or company event you may want to look at hosting this at Huashan 1914 Creative Park (華山1914文化創意產業園區)
In January 2020 our Chamber made a 96KNTD down payment to Huashan Park for Sweden Day 2020 and given the fact that we will not be exercising this pre-payment ourselves it’s up for grabs with a 10% discount.
Recovering this cost is a key priority for the Chamber. So please, if you have creative ideas please share them with fredrik@swedchamtw.org |

| Electrolux, one of Sweden's flagship multinational companies, is at the forefront of the appliances industry, employing some 48,000 people globally and with operations throughout the APAC region. During the past decade, the empowered consumer, her needs and demands, have transformed the appliance industry. These demands require manufacturing with increased pace and flexibility, which have, in combination with an ever-changing business environment, provided unprecedented industry challenges - for Electrolux included.
We are very proud to announce that we will have Jonas Samuelson, Electrolux Group CEO as our guest at the launch of our new SwedCham APAC CEO Series. During the hour with Mr Samuelson, we will hear how he approaches the global challenges the world is facing today, and how Electrolux is committed to leading the way towards a more sustainable business model for its industry. Mr Samuelson will give us an insight into how Electrolux company strategy has evolved over the past decade and what his top priorities are going forward. We will also find out his views on APAC - how he thinks this region will develop over the coming decade and how Electrolux will leverage its current presence in Asian markets to accelerate growth and prosperity.

Business Climate Survey 2021/2022 |
| |
The ambition with our annual Business Climate Survey report is to give voice to the Swedish companies in Taiwan and highlight to Swedish and Taiwanese governments the areas where they see opportunities to strengthen this important relationship and grow trade and exchange between our two economies.
The printed report is sent to all Taiwanese ministries along with a letter introducing our member companies and mission.
It is a sign of strength that the trade between Taiwan and Sweden continues to develop and grow, despite unprecedented pandemic challenges continuing to hamper the world also during 2021. Continued successful handling of the Covid-19 outbreak by Taiwanese authorities and the general public in Taiwan is given much praise from most of our company members. With the implications of Covid-19 still felt and the rising unpredictability in the international arena, the SCCT maintains three areas to speed up reforms, exchange, and investments.
1. We call on the Swedish government to establish an official Sweden Representation Office in Taiwan. An office, which sends signals of a broadened relationship between Sweden and Taiwan. Active and continuous official Swedish presence in Taiwan is needed to develop the dialogue between both governmental agencies and the Swedish business community in Taiwan.
2. Make it easier to invest. World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index 2021 lists Sweden as number the world’s 2nd most innovative country and Sweden has remained in the top three of the innovation ranking for more than a decade. While the SCCT praises recent Taiwan government measures to increase transparency and prior consultation periods, easing the way for Swedish world class innovation in Taiwan, we strongly encourage the Taiwanese governing bodies to work with the EU to mutually recognize and adhere to common standards and test requirements, shortening time to market and cost of entry into Taiwan.
3. Make it easier to work, study and travel. The introduction of direct flights between Taiwan and Sweden in combination with relaxed Taiwanese border controls to increase inflow of professional Swedish labor, students and tourism between the locations would strengthen the long-term relationship between Taiwan and Sweden and open up for more innovative business.
We hope this report will be of use and interest to You and your colleagues.. Should You need any further information, additional printed copies in English and Mandarin - please do not hesitate to contact us at ceo@swedchamtw.org |
