Swedish Chamber of Commerce Taipei

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce Taipei (SCCT) works to promote and assist Swedish and Sweden-related companies on the Taiwanese market.

By studying and advancing the commercial and industrial relations between Sweden and Taiwan, we are able to provide our member companies with a platform for making their voices heard among decision-makers.

We put significant time and effort into promoting Sweden culturally, as strengthening the Sweden brand is of high importance and value both to us and our member companies. This goal is achieved by arranging trade fairs providing marketing opportunities for our brands and the Sweden brand in general. Our biggest such event is the annual Sweden Day Taiwan event.

We also organize events of a more social nature. These events are aimed both at the Swedish community here in Taiwan and people of other nationalities with an interest in Sweden. They include midsummer celebrations and an annual crayfish party and can be seen as part of our cultural mission.

In short, we connect Sweden and Taiwan.

After a short social interlude also known as the year 2020, we restart our annual Sweden-Taiwan Crayfish Party!

You will be treated to a very traditional Swedish festivity with great food, drinking songs, "schnappsvisor" in the company of new and old friends. This event is the perfect way to entertain clients, colleagues and friends and to enjoy a typically Swedish celebration.

During this festive evening, you will enjoy traditional Swedish delicacies like crayfish, cheese pie, knäckebröd, various condiments together with free flow of beer, wine, singing and networking. And of course, we provide silly hats, bibs and schnapps to go with the singing!

The history of 'kräftskiva' (crayfish party) stretches back to as early as the 16th century, when it started to become popular with the royals. In the 17th century, Swedes started eating crayfish on a wider scale. The name kräftskiva was coined in the 1930s and it's believed to derive from the 19th century bourgeois crayfish ritual 'kräftsupa' – involving crayfish and alcoholic drinks. As for the kräftskiva as we know it today, it took off in earnest in the 1960s.

The kräftskiva season kicks off at the beginning of August and usually runs well into September. These days, no specific date is set, although traditionally the crayfish party season began on the first Wednesday of August, reflecting the historic ban on crayfish fishing between November and August 7. Most crayfish parties take place outdoors, making the most out of the last summer days and so do we - we really look forward to seeing you up at our Party HQ on Yangmingshan!
